Smartphone brands are moving toward wireless phone charging technology, where you can charge your device without plugging in a charging cable.
This technology, also known as “Inductive Charging,” works on the principle of mutual induction. Instead of a wired connection, an electromagnetic field transfers energy from the charging base to your phone.
Here’s how it works:
A charging pad or base station has an induction coil that generates an alternating electromagnetic field.
Your phone, equipped with a receiver coil, picks up this energy.
The coil inside the phone converts it back into electrical current, which then charges the battery.
Essentially, the two coils (one in the charger and one in the phone) work together like an electrical transformer, enabling wireless energy transfer.
Nokia’s Step Into Wireless Charging
Nokia was among the first brands to experiment with this technology. Its models Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 supported wireless charging with the help of a special charging shell.
Nokia also introduced a range of wireless charging accessories, including:
