Xiaomi introduced its Mi 5C smartphone along with its first in-house chipset Surge S1

Xiaomi launched Mi 5C smartphone along with its first in-house chipset named Surge S1 at the National Convention Centre in Beijing.  Surge S1, The new octa-core SoC is built on the 28nm process, and runs up to 2.2GHz. The Mi 5C is first smartphone that powered by Surge S1.

Xiaomi Mi 5C

Xiaomi Mi 5C comes with a 5.15” full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) curved glass display with a pixel density of 428ppi. The Mi 5C is powered by Surge S1 chipset paired with Mali-T860 GPU and 3GB RAM. It has 64 GB internal storage with an option to expand the storage via microSD card. The device comes with Android 7.1 Nougat and MIUI out of the box.

The Mi 5C sports a 12 MP primary camera and a 8 MP selfie shooter. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, USB Type-C, a 3.5mm audio jack, and FM radio. The battery of Mi 5C is 2860 mAh.

The Mi 5c has a metal unibody, it measures at 144.38×69.68×7.09 mm, and weighs 135 grams. There is a fingerprint scanner on the home button. It will be made available in China on March 3 in Rose Gold, Gold, and Black colours. It is priced at CNY 1,499 (roughly Rs. 14,500).

Surge S1

Surge S1 is processor built by Xiaomi like Samsung’s Exynos, Apple’s A series. The processor comes with 8 Cortex A53 cores, half of them clocked at 2.2 GHz and the other half at 1.4 GHz. It is made on the 28 nm HPC process and has “lower power consumption for daily use,” according to the company’s press release.
